Hatmaker Week 34, August 2023: Where the adventure takes you

When people with a 9 to 5 job starts to return to their normal routine and the schools are opening their doors, summer is officially over. Well, September is officially an Autumn month. September starts next week. I am looking back at Summer, in fact the entire year and assess what I have accomplished and what events have taken place.

Life is constantly throwing curve balls. It is not always easy to be proactive and be prepared for every event. That's is not the meaning of life anyway. I do not adhere to any religious belief per se but I do have a strong spiritual belief in why we are here and what our journey is all about. I often pray and ask for guidance and if you pay attention to your surroundings there is always a responding message with an answer or at least a hint. We are not here to live an easy life. Those that seemingly have a perfect life have their own issues and lessons that they are suppose to learn. That's why it is not necessary to compare yourself to others because you simply can't. Ego is often mistaken for greed and ego is what keeps us alive. It's not about seeing yourself as better than anyone else but a way to keep yourself moving forward and learning from that experience. Within that, there is always room to help others. 

I am looking for a way to bring people together and I often believed that Hatmaking would be the key to do just that. Maybe it's not just the actual craft but in how I broke away from the societal norm of how one is expected to live. We are all on a journey of learning and society is not helping us with that journey. The world is getting more restricted and in Sweden it's getting more apparent every day. We are suppose to live free and with that freedom comes great courage and responsibility. One does not have to rebel in the streets but decide to live differently. A way of life that is right for your journey and one that cause no harm to others. An interesting way of looking at life is that we have more time ahead of us than what has passed. 

With that said, I am launching a new line of hats. Not yet updated on the site, as many other things. A new line of western felt adventure hats made to look like a regular fedora. It's nothing groundbreaking new, I know. But it is meant to be a specific fedora that you can rely on to protect you in the outdoors. A hat with a regular length brim, 2 3/4 inch brim or shorter. No need for a 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 inch brim to ready for your adventure. Even though I can craft that for you, I want to make a line of hats that are catering to that toughness that you need. A sturdy western hat made to look as an adventure fedora. I have the first one ready which is the last hat you see below. It's made from a vintage 4X Beaver Western Acorn color fedora which I refurbished to look more casual. It also resembles the Leifur Indy fedora. This one in particular will be available in the marketplace. I can of course make a similar hat in a brand new felt that I have in stock. Perhaps not that color because that one in particular is limited edition. A similar color will be available in 2024, 50X Beaver Blend. Not as western, but as dress weight fedora felt.
